Night market

Wanna try traditional cuisines? Wanna try affordable fresh seafood? Wanna buy souvenirs for friends and family? Wanna check out the night in Phú Quốc? Let’s come and visit the night market located at the T-junction of Bạch Đằng Street and Nguyễn Đình Chiểu Street, I mean the downtown.

Well, this night market is not too different compared with that in Vietnam, since there are tons of seafood restaurants, souvenir shops, desserts, and cafeteria shops, street foods… The most special thing that I believe you cannot miss when visiting there is trying very fresh and affordable seafood in big or small restaurants.

It starts around 16:00 until midnight, the most crowded time is between 17:30 to 21:00 that you might be aware of bad guys. There are also some specialties which you can buy for your friends and family members, such as salted shrimp, salted caramel, coconut candy...

Phú Quốc Prison

Phú Quốc Prison

Every year, Phú Quốc Prison welcomes thousands of tourists making it become one of the most attractive destinations to visit in Phú Quốc. Historically, it was built by the French colonialists to imprison Vietnamese, which was known as Coconut Tree Prison.

In 1967, Saigon Government rebuilt the Coconut Tree Prison into Phu Quoc communist prison in an area of 400ha, also known as Phu Quoc war prison, or Phu Quoc prison. This was the largest place to keep communist soldiers in the South with more than 32,000 prisoners.

There are hundreds of person-shaped statues around the prison to imitate the old prisoners, the cruel of the colonialists, the terrible fear of communists, and the horrible war.

At that time, thousands of prisoners died in prison because they couldn’t stand the torture. But with the resilience, courage, and intelligence, the prisoners dealt with them in different forms of struggle from low to high levels, dividing the enemy ranks, tunneling to escape, etc.

Dinh Cậu Rock

Dinh Cậu Rock

Situated right next to the fishing harbor, Dinh Cậu Rock’s formation has been used for worship since time immemorial. The temple and lighthouse of Dinh Cậu were built in 1937, as a shrine to Thiên Hậu, the goddess of the sea.

There are 29 winding stone steps to reach the main part of Dinh Cậu (or Cậu Temple), where you can admire the spectacular sunset views of Dinh Cậu Beach, traditional fishing boats, the downtown, and neighboring islets.

Well, it’s not so attractive that most tourists can come to visit; however, to visit this local temple is to understand the culture of the locals and enjoy your time at an isolated beach.

Phú Quốc National Park

There is where you want to take a nature-friendly trip ever to explore Phú Quốc. This is one of its natural wonders with immense forests and marine resources. This is also a part of the Biosphere Reserve of Kiên Giang Province (well, Phú Quốc belongs to it), which is a UNESCO designated site.

Phú Quốc National Park is home to a variety of wildlife, endangered species, and human beings, of course. It covers half of the northern region in Phú Quốc Island. If you are an adventure lover, Phú Quốc National Park is for you where you can go hiking and explore the forests.

Suối Tranh Waterfall

Taking a 10-minute drive from the downtown, Suối Tranh Waterfall is a place for those looking for a peaceful and friendly environmental place and escape from the bustling city. There, you can go for a small picnic with your friends, family or lover at the foot of the waterfall.

You can also go hiking within a short distance that will please you with beautiful and picturesque views and many orchids, exotic mushrooms, and a variety of moss and lichens.

Hàm Ninh Fishing Village

Before or after you visit Suối Tranh Waterfall, don’t forget to visit Hàm Ninh Fishing Village where you can admire the daily lifestyle of the locals. This is where local fishermen work every day for their main income for their lives.

There, you can also find really fresh seafood caught from the ocean at a reasonable price. Also, don’t forget to join with locals and try to do their works. The best time to visit Hàm Ninh Fishing Village is the very early morning where daily life just begins.

Beaches

Well, no words can describe the beauty of the beaches in Phú Quốc Island, so I just list them out here that you cannot miss to admire and deeply enjoy them.
